Rattan poles (AKA Malacca Cane), unlike bamboo poles, are solid, more smooth and regular in size. They enjoy less taper, although they still do taper some. Rattan poles are cut from a variety of vine-like palms according to their intended use, some more flexible for weaving and others more rigid for structural purposes. As importers, we are very aware of these differences. Please let us know your intended purpose so we can suggest the best variety. |

The rattan bark - or skin - is removed by a machine and the pole sanded to produce a smooth surface. The wood is a pale sand color. Wood dyes and finishes are easily applied. Skinless rattan is most often used for wicker furniture, curtain rods and even picture frames. Rattan poles, unlike bamboo poles, are solid, more smooth and regular in size. They enjoy less taper, although they still do taper some. Also, let us know if we will be shipping to a residential or commercial address. If we have your complete shipping address and number of poles and cutting instructions, we can figure out the exact total for you. Note: Cutting the poles down to 42" can save greatly on shipping charges. |

Round Kooboo Rattan (Coiled and Straight) |
|||||||
Kooboo rattan is a class of processed, strong, and pliable rattan that is light in weight and firm in texture. This round rattan can be used in basketry, but is more frequently employed for spokes and handles. It is also ideal for rattan furniture repair. Actual yield of feet per pound varies greatly on all natural rattans due to differences in density from lot to lot. For mallet handles: Rattan offers more flexibility than birch, and many players find that this flexibility is preferable for two-mallet work. These players prefer the "snap" which rattan can add to one's playing motion. |
